The SRJC Women’s Cross Country team did well at the George Brook Memorial Invitational, finishing fifth among strong competition. They had an average time of 23:25, showing great teamwork and determination as they work to improve this season.
Freshmen Kristi Smith and Jennifer Orozco led the team, finishing 15th and 16th, respectively. Smith finished with a time of 22:08, and Orozco was close behind at 22:14. Isabella Barriga finished 23rd in 24:01, followed by Siena Deadman (24:07) and Gabi Tonelli (24:35), completing the top five. Despite a tough course, the Bear Cubs showed impressive grit and set a solid foundation for the rest of the season.
Head Coach David Wellman said, “While we have room for improvement, I’m proud of how our athletes performed today. Each runner showed a lot of heart, and we’re excited to build on this experience.”
Allan Hancock College won the meet, with their top runner, Itandehui Olea, finishing first overall in 19:00.

The Men’s team finished strong in second place with a total score of 56, averaging 23:32 over the 4.1-mile course. Isaac Feleay led the way, finishing 8th with a time of 23:01. He was followed by Jared Hayes in 11th (23:27) and Adrian Estrada in 12th (23:39). Luke Baird and Johnny Ando also scored for the team, finishing 13th and 14th with times of 23:48.
“We had a solid showing today, and I’m proud of how our runners supported one another. This will be important as we move forward.” Said Coach Wellman.
The Bear Cubs faced tough competition from #1 ranked Hartnell College, who won with a score of 32, and Diablo Valley College, who finished third.
This meet was a valuable experience, especially since the course will host the Big 8 Conference Championships later this year.
Next, the SRJC Bear Cubs will compete at home in the Kyle Robinson Twilight Invitational at Bailey Field and Track on Friday, September 27th.
