Santa Rosa Junior College Cross Country traveled to Salinas for the Northern California Championship preview hosted by Hartnell College at Toro Park.
The SRJC Women’s Cross Country team delivered a solid performance at their fourth meet of the season. The Bear Cubs entered the race ranked 13th and showcased their growth and determination throughout the competition by finishing 9th overall.
Leading the way for the Bear Cubs was freshman Jennifer Orozco, who finished 46th with a time of 22:25. She was closely followed by Kristi Smith, who placed 52nd with a time of 22:44. The trio of Siena Deadman (67th, 23:48), Isabella Barriga (82nd, 25:14) and Zoe Thompson (85th, 25:28) rounded out the scoring. The final finisher for the Bear Cubs was Gabi Tonelli finishing in 92nd with a time of 25:58.
The men had a hard-fought race. Struggling with illness over the last two weeks the Bear Cubs were without their number 4 runner heading into the meet. The Bear Cubs battled through this adversity to finish a commendable 6th.
Leading the way for the Bear Cubs was freshman Isaac Feleay, who finished 22nd overall with a time of 21:58. Close behind were teammates Luke Baird, Adrian Estrada and Jared Hayes, finishing 26th, 29th and 30th respectively. Baird clocked in at 22:11, while Estrada and Hayes followed closely at 22:16. Rounding out the scoring was Johnny Ando with a time of 22:48 for 44th place.
The Bear Cubs will take a much needed bye week to train and refocus before hosting the Pat Ryan Invitational at Spring Lake on October 18th.
