PETALUMA — El Molino High senior Dane Krogstad missed his chance to win a fourth Sonoma County League discus title Saturday, but it wasn’t because he overslept as the rumor mill had it at the league championships.

Krogstad came into the meet with an Empire-best throw of 173 feet. The winning mark in the SCL meet was 139-4.

“Bummer,” Krogstad said after missing the event roll call around 9 a.m. “I didn’t oversleep. I thought the discus was at a different time.”

The top three finishers in each event qualified for the NCS Redwood Empire Championship meet at Del Norte High School next Saturday. Those qualifers advanced to the NorCal Meet of Champions at Berkeley — the final stop before the state meet at Cerritos College in Norfolk.

Krogstad, who has received a football scholarship from the University of Arizona, will compete in the shot put and in two relays at Del Norte.

El Molino, which was unbeaten in league, won the boys team championship with 141 points to 119 for Casa Grande.

Dan Noel of Casa Grande was the only triple winner, capturing the 110 high hurdles (15.8), the 400 meters (50.5) and 300 hurdles (39.7).

Analy’s Ruben Mora-Roman captured the 1,600 and 3,200; Healdsburg Eric Gunnink won the discus (139-4) and shot put, and El Molino’s Matt McHugh sprinted to victory in the 100 and 200.

Sophomore Ashton Lesieur of Casa Grande won three events but her team fell a half point short of upsetting Sonoma (116-115.5) in the girls championship.

The Analy 400-meter relay team of Tracy Webster, Katie Franci, Krista Presscott and Ashley Perlman won in a meet-record 50.1, wiping out the old record of 50.3 by Petaluma in 1997.

Lesieur won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 with a combined margin of victory of about 33 seconds.

Alise Fix won the 110 high hurdles, tying the meet record (15.6) by Kristin Palmer of Petaluma in 1993.
