On Maria Carrillo track
Wow what a race. Four runners under 9:40.
To put this in perspective the fastest times ever run in an NBL Finals, EVER, for third and fourth place are 9:39.43 and 9:47.48.
Here at this opening race of the year, these cross country runners put on an amazing show.
After a 4:57 first 1600 split the top four runners went into overdrive.
On the last lap, roughly a 63 second split, Maria Carrillo junior, Cameron Jones (9:34.23) edged Windsor sophomore Michael Ervin (9:34.24) by just 0.01 seconds. That is about a 4:37 final 1600 for these two.
Ervin is now 7th sophomore All-Time.
Only Windsor’s Corbin Post, who sat out this race, had a faster time last season.
Carrillo’s Austin Petrik was third (9:38.17) and Windsor’s Xavier Surgeon fourth (9:39.74).
Carrillo sophomore Hugh Cochrane broke the 10 minute barrier in 5th at 9:57.71.
