Consider joining the SRJC team

For those that are interested in continuing your Track and Field or Cross Country Career, look no further than Santa Rosa Junior College.

In the past six years, SRJC has helped numerous Track and Cross Country student-athletes achieve their goals in the classroom and on the track and transfer to a four year school. With over 20 athletes moving on to compete at division 1 and division 2 schools and a third of those athletes on scholarship, take a step closer to your dreams with SRJC Track and Field and Cross Country.

SRJC boasts some of the best coaches in the area. Head Coach David Wellman (Maria Carrillo ‘04, Chico State ‘08) coaches distance, hurdles and the Decathlon/Heptathlon groups. Since he has taken the helm in 2012, both the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams have qualified for the State Meet every year. He has coached multiple Conference champions and State qualifiers in distance events, two NorCal Champions in the 400 Hurdles, two NorCal Decathlon Champions, and one Decathlon State Champion.

Wellman is supported by some of the the best assistants in the Northern California:

Jim (Mac) McCray, Pole Vault: Mac has coached several Conference, NorCal, and State champions, multiple scholarship athletes and even an Olympic Trails participant in his 30 plus years of experience coaching at the JC.

Jan Desoto, Throws: Consistently the top throws coach in Northern California, Jan’s approach to throwing is technical and easy to pick up. In the past three years, five of the athletes he has coached have earned All American status and athletic scholarships to four year universities.

Darrell Horn, Jumps: In the short amount of time Darrell has been coaching for SRJC, the Oregon State Alum has cultivated some amazing jumpers. He has coached 5 state qualifiers.

The most exciting newest additions to the SRJC family:

Catrina (Cat) Wagner, Strength: Coach Cat was previously our hurdles coach, but has now stepped up to Strength Coach. Cat will develop individualized strength plans for each athlete to help support the work we do on the Track. She will be a solid asset to your success.

Herbie Polk, Sprints and Relays. Herbie has worked with his speed and endurance training group, currently called Barracuda Speed Academy (BSA), for the past three years. In that time Coach Herbie has developed the top high school sprinters and relay teams the Redwood Empire has ever seen. A number of the top 10 Empire records listed on this website in sprints, hurdles and relays are held by athletes who have trained with Coach Herbie. He is excited about the prospect of elevating the SRJC sprints and relays program to be one of the top programs in the state.
