Grace Southern and Kelsey Lemoine help Shasta win Butte Preview

Former Middletown High standouts Grace Southern and Kelsey Lemoine powered the Shasta College (Redding, CA) women’s track team to a win in their first meet of the 2020 season held at Butte College in Oroville. In addition to Shasta College the meet included teams from Siskiyou College, Butte College, Yuba College, Feather River College, and College of the Redwoods.

Southern compiled 22 1/2 points by winning the 1500 (5:28.93) and 800 (2:27.30), while anchoring the victorious 4x400m race (4:36.40). In the 800m, Southern finished an eye-popping 18.37 seconds clear of second place. In the 4×400 – she inherited a near 30m deficit and hunted-down the leader to finish over 12 seconds in the lead.

Lemoine ran a strong 100m (13.33) to place second and followed with a tough 4th in the 200m (28.29) – adding 13 team points. Brandeja Christensen of Feather River College won both sprints. Shasta College had a commanding lead in the 4x100m (Lemoine third leg) but both teams entered were DQ’d for exchange zone violations.
