First there was Utah’s Jane Hedengren attempting to break the high school national record and then there was a field of the best milers in the nation.
Hedengren achieved her goal of breaking the National Record in the mile with an near unbelievable 4:23.50.
Of the best USA runners Hanne Thomsen destroyed her own record with a mile 4:35.63, 1600m 4:33.90 and 1500m 4:16.76 to place second behind Hedengren.
Also in the race was the California state 1600m champ Braelyn Combe who had edged Thomsen 4:35.64 to 4:35.69. Combe finished in 14th.
This race broke Hanne’s mile record 4:40.58, her 1600m record 4:35.69 and Julia Stamps, Santa Rosa 1996 1500m record 4:23.94+.
Hanee’s times were #2 in the nation this year for all three distances.
In fact this one competition produced the top 4-6 times of the year for all three distances.
Thomsen’s time moves her all the way to 11th All-Time in the USA.
Thomsen is scheduled to match up against many of these same runners on June 8th in a 2 mile race at the Brooks PR Invitational in Washington.
