NBL “I don’t get no respect!”

Rodney Dangerfield always use to say “I don’t get no respect!”
And many in the NBL Track world were thinking the same thing when the NCS said the 12 school NBL super league would only get 6 automatic qualifiers to the NCS Redwood regional meet.

Now that the meet is over we have some facts that seem to justify what we were saying.
Maria Carrillo won the boys title and Santa Rosa the girls.
But it was the over whelming high places of the whole NBL that we are going to look at.

First to explain process.
The NCS wants to have 24 entries per event. Plus Lower Lake, which I for one think should stay with their CMC league at the NCS 1A meet, but that’s another subject.
I think most would agree that it is good that there be 6 qualifiers of the best marks after the automatic placing qualifiers.
That leaves 18 spots that needed to be divided up between the four leagues.
The NCS decided that the little Humboldt league along with the Vine Valley and Marin league would all get 4 automatic qualifiers and the NBL would get 6.

I have already written about what the NBL decided to do with those six here in
A look at NBL finals if Oak/Redwood where not combined

With only a single years results to look at only time will tell if this was a normal year or not but it does seem to show that the NBL deserved more.
To fairly look at who should get how many of the 18 spots I looked at who took the top 9 places at the regionals.
These were the kids who took the 7 advancing spots going on to the MCS MOC meet plus the two who were close to getting them.
The chart at the bottom shows what leagues those kids came from.
Lo and behold the NBL grabbed the lions share of those spots
NBL 114
MCAL 78
VVAL 66
HDN 34

If you divide that up for 18 spots, per event, it looks like this.
NBL 7.1, rounded to 7
MCAL 4.9, rounded to 5
VVAL 4.1, rounded to 4
HDN 2.1, rounded to 2

When you look closer at the two NBL leagues they look like this
NBL-Oak 79 total or 4.9 per event
NBL-Redwood 35 or 2.2 per event

Will these facts cause the NCS to change things next year.
Time will tell.

Here are the actual numbers per event.

Events like the boys 400 were the NBL took three of the top four places showed the strength of the league. By Michael Lucid
Or both the boys and girls 1600 were they took five of the top nine spots.
