Sara Hall at New York City Marathon

Former Montgomery runner Sara Hall started off great in the New York City Marathon but had to drop out after 17 miles.
At the half she was in 14th overall and 6th among Americans.
Here are her splits.
33:59 at 10k, 54:56 10 miles, 1:13:03 at half.
1:36:24 at 17 miles.

What Sara said about the race.
NYC— what a beautiful day, what a heartbreak of a race for me.
Yesterday was not at all what I expected after a solid buildup and races leading in. I felt like I had no power in my legs, like I got transported into someone else’s body. My race ended at Mile 17 and I’m still trying to figure out if it was a bad dream.
As a pro marathoner, we invest so much in these moments. We sacrifice every race leading up for the sake of the end goal. My immediate thoughts after are “all of that effort wasn’t worth it.” And then I remember I loved the work and there’s nothing I’d rather be doing.
NYC, you showed up big time as you always do—thank you. This will always be my favorite place to race. Congratulations to everyone that finished, I loved meeting some of you!
Not sure what’s next but knowing myself I’ll be chasing some redemption out on the roads soon. See you there
