St. Vincent’s Yungert wins three races at CMC Championships

The Sonoma girls won their third straight Sonoma County League track championship, Casa Grande’s Ashton LeSieur won three running races, Healdsburg’s Eric Gunnink won the shot and discus with impressive throws and Sonoma’s Mindi Wiley set an SCL record in the high jump at Saturday’s SCL championships at Petaluma.
The Sonoma girls began the day in second place behind Casa Grande in the SCL team standings, but Sonoma wound up winning the crown by scoring 116 points Saturday, followed by Analy with 110, Petaluma with 105 and Casa Grande 103.
LeSieur, a junior, won “the triple,” capturing the 800 in 2:28, the 1,600 in 5:10 and the 3,200 in 12:17.2.
Double winners in girls were Ashley Pearlman of Analy (200, 400), Michelle Poehlman of Petaluma (LJ and TJ) and Melissa Van Paris of Sonoma (shot and discus).
Wiley, a sophomore, set a meet record in the high jump at 5-6. She finished second at state last year at 5-10.
Other girls winners were Casa’s Alise Fix (110H), Analy’s Tracy Webster (100), Analy’s Katie Franci (300H) and El Molino’s Kelsey James (PV).
The El Molino boys won the SCL championship, following up an undefeated league season by scoring 133 points, to 98 by Sonoma.
Winners for El Molino included Kevin Correa in the 3,200 (10:26.8), Gordon Wilson in the high jump (6-2) and Justin Brown in the pole vault (11-0). El Molino also won the 4×400 relay.
Gunnink and teammate Will Crockenberg were the only boys double winners. Gunnink won the discus with a throw of 159-9 and he won the shot at 52-3.
Crockenberg won the 200 (22.7) and the 400 (51.3).
Other boys’ winners were Casa’s Mike Becker (1,600), Casa’s Skylohr Taylor (110HH), Petaluma’s Dominique Jones (100), Healdsburg’s Tim Murphy (800), Petaluma’s Eric Vaughan (300H) and Analy’s Kevin Cullinen (TJ).
The top-four in each event advance to next weekend’s Redwood Empire Championships at Elsie Allen.
