The SRJC Track and Field team kicked off the 2024 season at the 4th Annual Jim Linthicum Invitational at De Anza College.
The Bear Cubs Battled well against most of the top teams in Northern California. The Men demonstrated their intentions for the season by securing a respectable third place overall.
Top point earner, Jalydon Love claimed the 3rd place in the 200m(22.28) and 2nd in the 400m(49.83). Ethan Dierke opened his season in the 800m, running a solid 1:58.01, good for 2nd place. Luca Salomon finished 3rd in the High Jump with a State Auto qualifying mark of 1.90m.
Capping off a fantastic day, the Men’s 4x400m relay team of Love, Robert, Dierke and Bugica took the top spot with a time of 3:23.38.
The Women exhibited their new found depth with a commanding 4th place finish overall, a mere 8 points behind Big 8 Conference rivals Modesto.
The tone was set early on Friday evening when Freshmen Silo Lua finished 1st in the Shot put with a State A Qualifying mark of 12.13m. This mark is the 6th All-Time Shot-Put mark in SRJC History.
Ruby Loe finished 1st in the Pole Vault, also with a State A qualifying mark of 3.55m. Roby is currently ranked 1st in the State of California.
On Saturday, the Women’s 4x100m relay of Valencia Dimas, Leonard, Estrella and Monroe dropped an impressive early season performance. Finishing 3rd overall with a time of 50.93.
Tully Leonard had a massive day improving her previous personal best in the high jump by 15cm with a jump of 1.55m. The jump hits the State A standard and ranks Leonard 3rd in the State of California.
The Bear Cubs will return to action on Feb 23rd at Chabot College for the Wildcat Cup
