The Bear Cubs played host to some of the top talent in the State at the Pat Ryan Invitational at Spring Lake Park on Saturday. The women continued their impressive run of form. Finishing 2nd behind the number one ranked team in the state, Hartnell, the Bear Cubs will take this momentum as they head into the post season. Ana Palafox was the first Bear Cub to cross the line in 5th place. Although she did not better her time from last week, Palafox competed well in a very competitive race.
On the men’s side, Johnny Vargas is two wins on the bounce with another victory in a very fast race. Again sitting in the lead pack through the first mile, Vargas came through at 5:10. Over the next four miles, Vargas took control and came out on top. Andrew Magdaleno ran a seasons best, improving his time from the previous race by 27 seconds. Not only that, but Magdaleno who was our 5th place finisher at the Norcal Preview in Redding, he was able to jump two places and cross the line as the 3rd Bear Cub.
SRJC Cross Country heads into the post season. Big Conference finals will be held in Martinez on Friday Oct. 26th. NorCal Finals will be in Redding on November 2nd and the State Championships will be run in Woodward Park in Fresno on November November 17th.
