Field Events Shine at the 2nd Annual Wildcat Cup

Kayley Walker won the Shot put

San Luis Obispo, CA – In there second meet of the season, the Bear Cubs traveled five hours down the 101 to compete in the second annual Wildcat Cup hosted by Cuesta College. The Women’s Tack and Field team dominated field events on their way to second place overall.

Audrey Stalcup started the day off winning the Pole Vault with a jump of 14’ 0.25” a mark that currently leads Northern California. Finishing 2nd in the same event, Katelyn Benner had a shot at bettering her season best however her pole broke. Not to be deterred, Benner returned 2 hours after breaking her pole to finish 1st in the High Jump with a NorCal qualifying mark of 4’ 11”.

Kayley Walker had a dominate day in the rings, finishing 1st in the Shot Put with a NorCal Leading mark of 39’ 1.75” and 2nd in the Hammer with a mark of 129’ 3.5”. Walker now has three State A qualifying marks in the Hammer, Shot Put and Discus.

On the Track, Bria Keelty had a 2nd place finish and a PR in the 800 with a time of 2:31.66. Assata Polk also finished in 2nd in the 400m with a time of 60.08. The Women’s 4×400 relay team of Jardstrom, Polk, Keelty, and Gilmore finished in 2nd place with a time of 4:12.82.

The Bear Cubs will compete next Friday in Modesto at the Jack Albiani Invitational.

SRJC Men Finish Third in the 2nd Annual Wildcat Cup

San Luis Obispo, CA – In there second meet of the season, the Bear Cubs traveled five hours down the 101 to compete in the second annual Wildcat Cup hosted by Cuesta College. The Men’s team finished 3rd overall with top performances in the Relays, High Jump, Long Jump, and Triple Jump.

Sophomore Jumper, Duilio Froes was a double winner in Long Jump and the Triple Jump. Improving on his previous marks, Froes jumped 21’ 2.25” in the Long Jump and 44’ 8.25” in the Triple Jump.

The High Jumping trio of Waisea Jikoiono, Jacob Williams, and Ross Sceales scored big points with a first, second and fourth place finish. Jikoiono cleared 6’ 6.75” his third time over two meters in his JC career.

The relays teams had a solid showing with a pair of season best marks. The Men’s 4x100m relay team of Coffey, Luis, Segura, and Love finished 2nd with a time of 42.89. The 4×400 relay team of Coffey, Love, Luis, Segura took the win with a time of 3:26.75.

The Bear Cubs will compete next Friday in Modesto at the Jack Albiani Invitational.
