Analy great Chris Sorensen passed away recently from cancer.
Chris was a member of the still standing Shot Put Relay team record of 157-7 Analy 1977 (John Balleto, Rick Mohr, Chris Sorensen).
As a junior at Analy, throwing behind Balleto, Chris broke the Redwood Empire All-Time junior record in the discus, throwing 164-9 in 1977.
That moved him to 7th All-Time in 1977 and he is still 25th on the All-Time list.
As a senior he was the Sonoma County League Champion in both throws.
In the 1978 SCL Championships his 162-10 meet record in the discus is still the 2nd longest throw in the meet history.
He finished the season with the Redwood Empire Prep best in the shot at 53-6½ which is still 33rd All-Time.
Chris went on to compete at Cal Poly after competing at the Santa Rosa Junior College.
At Cal Poly Chris threw the college discus 173-10 in 1981, a Redwood Empire record at the time and still second on our adult list.
