When a friendly rivalry just won’t be broken

Viking Coach Melody Karpinski sent me a fun tidbit.

Two of my best sophomore distance runners, Kyle Theuerkauf and Brent Oru-Craig are best friends and have known each other since Slater.
Last season, Brent did sprints and hurdles while Kyle did long distance. Brent added the 1600 to his events this year so they’ve been going back and forth in practice.

Going into the Dublin Distance Fiesta Brent’s goal was to break five and Kyle’s goal was to beat his time from last year at 4:58.64.
Brent ran first in Section 19. He turned in splits of 72/2:26/3:45 and finished in 4:57.04.
Kyle was next in Section 20. He turned in splits of 72/2:26/3:45 and finished in 4:57.04.

Yes the EXACT same time, down to the hundreth of the second! It was a PR for both of them.
They both met their goals without out either really getting the satisfaction of one upping their buddy.

Brent is on the left and Kyle is on the right.
