Cocome McKamey Ups Her Points

Former Santa Rosa star Cocome McKamey followed up her CCAA HEPTATHLON win with a new personal best at the Franson Last Chance meet.
Winning the CCAA, at 4996 ps, was huge but apparently she wanted to break the 5000 point barrier.

At the Franson Last Chance meet she bettered her point totals in two of the first days events bettering her shot put (36-0¾) and 200 meter marks (25.43). She finished the first day with 3033 points, 11 pts ahead of her 3022 score at CCAA. She got a great start in the long jump the second day going 18-5¼ to move 27 points ahead of her best through five events. But the javelin was a down event for her. With just the 800 left she would need a 2:25.64 to tie her best score and a 2:25.33 to reach 5000.
She not only accomplished that with a 2:19.70 run to place 3rd in the overall event but scored 5075 points.
That mark moves her to second all-time on the Redwood Empire list moving her ahead of Deanne Malvino.
Malvino was the 1984 NCAA III National Champion at 5039 points.
McKamey is qualified for the NCAA II Championships at the end of May.
