The National Cross Country Championships, formerly called Footlocker Nationals, was held today 12/10/22 at Morley Field at Balboa Park in San Diego.
North Bay League girls have won this meet three times.
In the girls race this years winner was Karrie Baloga of Cornwall Central from New York. She is the second girl from that school to win following Aisling Cuffe’s win in 2010. Her time makes her the tenth fastest winner just ahead of Cuffe and Montgomery’s Sara Bei won won in 2000.
The fastest time ever was by Ukiah’s Amber Trotter with Santa Rosa’s Julia Stamps in 4th.
California’s Sadie Engelhardt was the top Western Regional finisher this year in 10th.
The boys winner was Kole Mathison with the top California finisher being Grant Morgenfeld in 18th.

California is the only state that has has more than two champions who ran one of the 12 fastest times. All three of those runners were from our North Bay League. Two of those runners were from the city of Santa Rosa. Of the two fastest times from both the San Diego course and the Orlando course the NBL produced two of the four times. The three fastest times ever run by girls from the west team were all from the North Bay League.
