Finals Saturday 6:00 p.m.
Montgomery senior Hanne Thomsen
This is Thomsen’s 2nd time winning NCS, won this in 2023.
Her 4:47.25 winning time has her seeded 4th.
Her fastest time of 4:38.96 in March came at the New Balance Indoor Nationals (4:40.58 mile).
Recently she ran 4:41.16 to win the NBL finals.
Both Thomsen and La Jolla’s Chiara Dailey (top seed 4:43.57 won San Diego Section, PR 4:40.28 Arcadia Invitational) will be in Heat 1 of 2 Heats.
Dailey was third at State last year in 4:43.30.
Both girls will be doubling back in the 3200.
When Thomsen ran in this event at State in 2023 she placed 4th 4:43.63.
If someone goes out hard in the qualifying round it may take around 4:50 flat to make the finals which should not be a problem for Thomsen.
The Redwood Empire has won this event three times.

Cardinal Newman junior Kaylin Suacci
Suacci won the NCS at 138-02, 17th & 23rd Performances AT
Her longest throw of the season was 140-04 to win the NCS Redwood meet.
She is seeded 12th which is the number of throwers that will move on to the finals from qualifying.
To medal she will need a top six placing, which is within her reach as the 6th seed is 142-10.
The only girl from Cardinal Newman/Ursuline to ever place in the top eight was pole vaulter Michelle Stone, Ursuline 11-10 Tie 7th 2009.
Suacci is only 11 inches short of being the best undergrad we have ever had.
141-3 Allison Scranton, Petaluma 2014, junior record

Justin-Siena junior Lainey Reiter
Reiter won NCS at 57.07, 45th Performance AT, just a tick, off her PR of 57.06.
She will be in Heat 1 of 4 running out in lane 8.
It may take 55.0 to make the final.
Seeded 24th this will be a great opportunity to lower her PR and get experience to medal next year.
The best at state a Justin-Siena girl has done is 19th by Liliana Hobaugh in the long jump 17-5¾ +1.4 2023.
Empire’s best placing in this even
3rd Kirsten Carter, Santa Rosa 54.07 2018, Empire Record

Technology sophomore Josie Hill
What a year for this sophomore.
She started off the year in February with an Empire record indoors at 2:11.57.
After Thomsen lowered that Hill came back to retake the record in our first ever sub 2:10 with a 2:09.12 record.
Thomsen being the super star she is then won the big match up at the Viking Classic and took back the record.
Something tells me Hill will be looking to reclaim that record in the future.
Hill won NCS at 2:10.16, 3rd Performance AT
That makes her the 5th seed at State.
17 girls are seeded below 2:12 so expect major battles in the qualifying for the 12 final spots.
Hill will be in Heat 2 of 3.
That heat will have Anne Elise Packard, J Serra Catholic 2:07.72 PR and Grace Smith, Claremont 2:08.55 PR.
Empire’s best placing in this even
4th Kerri Woolheater, Casa Grande 2:12.59 1992
Last medalist 6th Dirkje Dunham, Analy 2:13.58 1998
Fastest time at State ever 2:12.16 Kerri Woolheater, Casa Grande 6/1/91 State, Former Empire record

Finals Saturday 7:50 p.m.
Santa Rosa senior Janelle Wanliss
Wanliss won NCS at 43.74, 5th All-Time
This was a huge PR as she had only PRed the week before at 45.03.
Her time seeds her at 13th. With the number 9 seed at 42.88 she will need another huge PR to make the final.
She will be in Heat 4 of 4 out in lane 7.
This is an amazing event for the Panthers as the Empire’s top 10 list now has seven just from this one school.
Empire’s best placing in this even
4th Katie Schukle, Santa Rosa 43.40 1996
Last Empire runner to make final was Kyra Johnson, Piner 7th 43.32 2011

Qualifying Friday 8:00 p.m The top 12 will advance to the finals.
Finals Saturday 8:30 p.m.
Rancho Cotate senior Nina Boblitt
Boblitt launched her best throw so far at the NBL finals with a 39-09 mark.
At the NCS meet she made state on her final throw at 39-00 to take third.
Seeded =18th she has a shot at making the finals if she can break the 40 foot barrier.
The 12th seed is 40-08.5. A one foot PR is not out of the question.
Empire’s best placing in this event
5th Melissa Van Paris, Sonoma Valley 43-9 2004
Rancho’s best ever place came from long jumper Amey Mitchell, 2nd 19-3¾ 1990

Finals Saturday 9:20 p.m.
Montgomery senior Hanne Thomsen
Thomsen qualified by winning the NCS at 10:19.56, This is Hanne’s 4th time winning NCS in this event.
Thomsen’s best time of 9:55.31 from the 2023 Arcadia meet is the 9th All-Time mark in the state just ahead of the defending state champion (Jaelyn Willia, East Lake 9:57.11)
So far Thomsen’s season best again came from Arcadia at 9:58.17, 10:01.72 2 mile.
Top seed is Rylee Blade from Santiago who won the SS Masters Meet in 10:11.38 . This will be her only event.
Last year Blade was third in the State finals (10:06.26) behind Willia (9:57.11) and Thomsen (9:59.81).
Chiara Dailey from La Jolla won San Diego Section in 10:15.74, her PR from March is 9:58.02. I think it came in a mixed race with boys.
Willia was 2nd to Dailey at the San Diego Section in 10:16.39, a season best time. She has dropped the 1600 and will only run this event.
Thomsen won the State title as a freshman in 2022 at 10:06.89.
The meet record of 9:52.13 by Jordan Hassay 2008 is in jeopardy.
Montgomery senior Amrie Lacefield
Lacefield placed 2nd behind Thomsen at NCS in 10:25.52, 7th All-Time
Running in the shadow of Thomsen has kept Lacefield from big wins but she is still one of the top distance runners in the state.
She is peaking at the right time and being seeded at 9th means she just needs to pass a few girls to end up on the podium.
The Redwood Empire has won this event six times.
