Combined Season Rankings by Marks

1978 ruled the boys and 2019 ruled the girls but in a combined 2019 REALLY stood out.
The marks turned in during the 2019 season were so much better than any other season it’s hard to believe.
Mostly because the girls decades just keep getting better as time passes that this millennium dominated the top 10 list.
The surprising thing about the seasons was that just because one gender had a great year there did not seem to be any correlation with the other gender that same year also having a great year and visa versa.
No matter what the 2019 coaches and athletes gave us a year to remember.

Progression of the best years ever for each gender are as follows.
In the boys 1970 kicked things of averaging 2 marks per event for a total of 30 marks, before Triple Jump became an event.
1972 tied that mark at 32 with TJ now in play.
1973 destroyed that record with 44 for a 2.75 average per event.
Five years later 1978 produced a record 46 marks which was never challenged until last year, 2019, when they earned 45.

For the girls the very first full year, 1976, for the girls averaged 1.4 marks per event to set the standard to beat.
1980 up it to almost 2 per event before 1981 destroyed that mark with a 2.5 average.
That held for 11 years before 1992 had an amazing 48 marks for an average of 3 per event.
No season would better them for another 11 years when the 2003 girls earned 51 marks.
That would hold up for 12 years before 2015 surpassed them by 2 with 53.
Then last year the 2019 girls up it another five full marks, all the way to 58 for a 3.6 average to now hold the title of best marks ever produced in a season..
