Healdsburg’s Gabrielle Peterson destroyed the field at this years Sonoma County League Championship to retain her title in 17:53.
Her time moves her to the 10th fastest Junior All-Time, ahead of school record holder Sarah Sumpter on that list and is now 18th All-Time.
Peterson’s 1:57 margin of victory has only been bettered in SCL history by Sonoma Valley great Kathy Dalton in 1986 & 87.
Only three SCL runners have ever covered the Spring Lake 3.05 mile course faster in finals history (28 years), Sumpter (16:51), Jacque Taylor, Casa Grande (17:07) and Nicole Lane, El Molino (17:30).
After Peterson the next six runners were all Sonoma Valley and Piner as they battled for the team win.
They were Amy Stanfield, Sonoma Valley (19:50), Cynthia Rosales, Piner (20:14), Jenna Ebert, Sonoma Valley (20:22), Veronica Rodriguez, Piner (20:34), Fatima Olivares, Piner (20:37) and Aliya Blinman, Sonoma Valley (20:43).
Rounding out the top ten were Grace Moussa, Analy (20:49), Aquielle Nelson, Analy (20:59) and Eliza Neeley, Sonoma Valley (21:07).
On the team side Sonoma Valley won the battle over Piner 35-45 for their fourth straight pennant. Video by Jim Peterson SCL History
